  • Home:
      • Dwellings > $1,000,000 cannot be bound without prior underwriting approval.
      • Dwellings > $500,000 in fire protection class 8B, 9, 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X, 7X, 8X, 1Y, 2Y, 3Y, 4Y, 5Y, 6Y, 7Y and 8Y dwellings cannot be bound without prior underwriting approval.
      • 1 to 4 unit homes where one unit is owner-occupied
      • Modular Homes are acceptable with a continuous masonry foundation and pitched roof.
      • Protection class 1-8 acceptable. 
      • Dwellings are to be insured for 100% of Reconstruction Cost.
      • Trampolines Eligible if located in a fenced yard and:
        • Equipped with an acceptable safety net enclosure.
        • Trampoline must be secured to the ground with a trampoline anchor kit, stakes, or similar devices
      • Swimming pools eligible if restricted access as evidenced by: 
        • Fencing with a self-latching gate of at least 4 feet in height
        • Above ground pools at least 4 ft. in depth must be secured with a removable or locking ladder or have a fence built into the pool around the top
        • Diving boards:
          • Must have non-skid surfaces,
          • Must meet the manufacturer requirements for depth, height from water and upslope.
        • Slides
          • Must meet the manufacturer requirements for depth, height from water.
  • Auto:
    • Above average insurance scores
    • Homeowners or renters who are currently insured with no gaps in prior coverage. 
    • They have higher prior limits (100/300 and above)
    • They have been long-term and loyal customers with previous carriers.
    • They have a clean driving record
    • They have an active US license
    • They have all listed vehicles registered to the named insured or spouse

 

Important Guidelines:

Common unacceptable risks include:

  • Home:
    • Mobile homes
    • Seasonal or secondary residence except as an accommodation to customers who insure their primary residence with Nationwide. 
    • Any short term rental of property (i.e. vacation, weekly or monthly rentals).
    • Homes with ponds less than 1000 feet of a neighboring dwelling or is visible from the road
  • Auto:
    • Named insured, spouse or co-owner is not titled owner of vehicle(s) to be insured.
    • Operators not possessing a current, valid, verifiable U.S. or Canadian driver’s license.
    • Drivers requiring a financial responsibility form. (SR22 or FR44)
    • Any driver in the household has a currently revoked or suspended license.
    • Vehicles altered, rebuilt-titled, or in poor condition.
    • Unusual or unique type vehicles – includes experimental, replica/kit, limited production, driver training vehicles and gray market vehicles. 
    • Vehicles with comprehensive only coverage can only be written as an accommodation to the needs of applicants carrying other automobile liability insurance within a Standard/Preferred Nationwide policy.  
    • Vehicles valued at or above $100,000 require underwriting approval.
